Dahlia Flowers

Saturday February 6th

Part of our goody bags from Dahlia's party
was seeds for some dahlia flowers.
We planted them when we got home and
look how much they have grown in two weeks!
We haven't tried to grow anything from seed for years
so I don't know if we are skilled enough to actually get flowers, but
I love watching plants grow- it is truly amazing.

Girls Night

Friday February 5th

After work I went out with Brandy, my partner teacher.
We hit up happy hour and got these
delicious peach bellinis
and then went to see a girly movie.
We also had the new dessert:
raspberry tiramisu.
It was DELICIOUS!!!
I was trying to let Jeremy concentrate on studying
for his MFT exam...
and have a little fun too!

I have no idea what the inside looks like,
but I LOVE the porches!

Text Book Adoption

Wednesday February 3rd

The past few weeks at work I have been involved in the process
of choosing a new reading textbook for the district.
This afternoon, the two finalists came to our school
and gave a final sales pitch.
It is really a tough choice,
which I am taking maybe a little too seriously.
I just want to pick the right one since
the next 10+ years of teacher will be using them!

Disney Channel

Tuesday February 2nd

I love Disney Channel!
Shows such as
Hannah Montana
Jonas Brothers
Fineas and Ferb
and Wizards of Waverly Place
(featured above)
keep me company on late afternoons
when I am working in my room.
I know most adults find these shows cheesy,
but I find them pleasantly refreshing.
Wholesome (for the most part), funny and just plain fun.
It is like my own little happy place.

Copy Machine Wizard

Monday February 1st

Everybody at work has a love-hate relationship
with our "industrial strength" copy machines.
Most teachers don't have much patience with them
when they don't work like they are supposed to.
Having worked with copy machines for 4 years in college
and then ever since as a teacher,
I have a better understanding than most
about how to keep them happy.
I often end up helping someone understand
an error message and/or clear a jam.
There are a few occasions when even I can't fix it,
but honestly I enjoy the challenge of trouble shooting and
fixing the problem!
Maybe I should change professions...

Gift on Display

Sunday January 31st

Last weekend when we went to Killeen
we exchanged Christmas gifts.
Brandie got us these cool candles with our initials!

Saturday January 30th

Ok, so technically this isn't my photo.
I forgot to take the one I had planned.

This morning I went to work to help with
Saturday Science Tutorials.
For those of you who don't know,
TAKS is the state mandated test
my students have to take and pass to move on
to the sixth grade next year.
I don't actually teach science, but I love it
so I volunteered to help with tutorials.
Well, that and it was an extra 40 bucks
in my next pay check. :)

Date Night!

Friday January 29th

Tonight, Jeremy surprised me with a date night!
He had everything planned by the time I got home,
and he even voluntarily went to see a girly movie!

BTW, This is a good date movie because it is funny and romantic.

Thursday January 28th

How can two people dirty so many dishes??
We have both been busy this week
and the dishes piled up.
I HAD to clean them tonight,
as there was an unpleasant smell beginning
to float out of the pile...

Our New Best Friend

Wednesday January 27th

I believe the crock pot is the second greatest "modern" invention
with the crock pot bags coming close after!
We use our crock pot at least twice a week.
It is the best feeling to come home after a long day
to the smell of dinner already prepared!!

PS The greatest modern invention in my mind is the GPS...

I was collecting money for book orders
and one of my students paid in $2 bills!
I don't recall ever seeing one of these before!
I wasn't sure at first if it was real, but mom
and Jeremy confirmed that it was.
Then I wanted to keep it like a collectible,
but Jeremy spent it, saying we can get more
whenever we want from the bank.
Have any of you ever seen one before?

New game

Monday January 25th

Having beaten the latest Harry Potter game,
I need some new entertainment.
Actually, I found this game cheap at Half Priced Books.
I had played the demo before
and have enjoyed playing the full version
OBSESSIVELY!!

Souper Salad

Sunday January 24th

We found a Souper Salad today and decided to try it.
It was pretty good, though in my opinion
a little over priced for soup and salad.
Outside they had these cute potted plants. :)

We went to Killeen today for Dahlia's first birthday.
I helped Brandie and Tojuana decorate farm animal cupcakes.
